Our Mission

Our mission is simple: To provide highly professional service that empowers our clients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions, while helping them keep their properties safe and compliant with NYC regulations.

About Us

Criterion Inspections was founded in 2016 by Ralph Hassard, who brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience in the construction industry. Ralph’s journey began in high school, spending summers framing houses and working on family properties. Those early days instilled in him the values of hard work, craftsmanship, and a genuine commitment to customer care.

Over the next two decades, Ralph built and ran his own construction company, where he successfully renovated dozens of brownstones and apartment units throughout New York City. Each project deepened his understanding of building structures and mechanical systems, while also strengthening his belief in doing the job right—with skill, integrity, and respect for the people who would call these spaces home.

Carrying that experience forward, Ralph founded Criterion Inspections with the goal of helping people feel confident in their homes and investments. What began as a residential home inspection company has grown, guided by a commitment to continual education and professional standards.

Today, our services extend well beyond home inspections to include:

XRF lead-based paint testing in compliance with NYC local law 126

Parapet inspections in compliance with NYC local law 31

Termite inspections

Radon testing

Mold inspections and assessments

Residential home inspections

“At Criterion, we believe every client deserves clarity, confidence, and peace of mind. That’s why we combine decades of expertise with a personal commitment to safety, service, and trust.”

Google Review

“Ralph did an incredibly thorough job with our home renovation and identified a number of issues that we weren’t aware of. He took his time with the inspection and really explored every element of the property. He answered all of our questions and took time to review his findings with us. We will definitely be using him again the next time we need a home inspection!”
